There were lots of challenges to overcome with this Wauwatosa, WI project. The homeowner wanted to spend more time entertaining in his backyard without losing parking next to his existing garage. Our design team came up with the idea of building a covered carport in the style of a three-season room. This not only allowed the homeowner to keep his parking space and protect his vehicle, but also use it as a functional covered patio.
We encountered a few unique challenges on this project. The back of the home was facing a school parking lot and the homeowner wanted some privacy and didn’t want to have his guests looking at the parking lot. To help the homeowner and get the building permit, we created a simple mock-up version of a louvered partial wall and brought it to the Wauwatosa Design Review board meeting. We explained the plans and showed the board what the carport would look like. Once they saw our design the permit was approved.
The carport was finished with three support columns design to complement the style of the house and garage. We also installed an outdoor ceiling fan, decorative and functional lighting and electrical for a mounted television screen. The carport project was successfully completed as a private, but open entertainment space that can be enjoyed, rain or shine.
